Key Insights From The Bankhall Annual Conference 2017

On Thursday 23 November we opened the doors at Heythrop Park to hundreds of clients and providers to welcome them to the Bankhall Annual Conference 2017: The Past, Present And Future Of Financial Services.

The event was hosted by Fiona Bruce, who led us on a journey to understand the events that have defined financial services over the years and that continue to shape our approach and our purpose today. Together, we took a deep-dive look at the technologies shaping the future of financial services and how they can be harnessed in our everyday work to ensure a brighter future for everyone.

Read on for some of the key insights from our expert panellists and world-leading speakers, and for some of the most captivating images from the day.

Notable keynotes

All of our keynote speakers were fantastic, each one leading with their own interpretation of the theme and purpose of the day.

World-leading psychologist Adrian Furnham opened the day with his thoughts on the future of advisers' relationships with their customers, based on our emotional relationship with money and each other.

Head of International Strategy at Goldman Sachs, James Ashley gave us insight to the future of investing, emphasising the increasing importance of emerging markets.

Finally, Vanguard's Head of Personal Investing Europe Nick Blake asked whether the march of technology, robo-advice and artificial intelligence means the end for face-to-face advisers.

Panel debates

The first panel of the day was our technology panel debate, featuring insights from DT's Ben Goss, Intelliflo's Nick Eatock, Inspiring Advisers' Paul Armson and SBG's Peter Billington. Fiona Bruce led the discussion around the impact of technology on our business and personal lives. The panelists debated how far advisers need to embrace technology in the years to come, and the best ways to ensure its successful integration with their business models

The second panel and final session of the day was the industry panel. Delegates heard from PFS's Keith Richards, Aviva's Brian Gabriel, the Pension Regulator's Neil Esslemont, and SBG's John Cowan. The panel focused on key threats to our industry, including cyber crime and scams, and debated the role of regulators and advisers in protecting consumers.

Ground-breaking breakouts

In addition to our keynote speakers, we hosted five breakout sessions over the course of the morning, featuring in-depth insights on specialist topic areas from Aviva, Intelliflo, 7IM, Standard Life and BM Solutions.

These sessions were the perfect opportunity for delegates to dive a little deeper into the topics that are relevant to them, and to hear from some of the key players leading our industry today.

Gala dinner

The only fitting close to such a fantastic day was a fabulous night of music, entertainment, but at the same time creating an evening of opportunity for client conversations and that always-important chance to network.

What did our delegates think?

"Thank you so much for organising such a great conference. Four of us came up from Acuma Ltd and we all thought the conference was really well put together and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I know a lot of work goes into making these things happen. Looking forward to next year!" Nick Ball, Director - Acuma Ltd

"A massive well done to you on your conference. You should all be very proud of the event you created. Fiona Bruce was an inspired choice for MC. She was knowledgeable, insightful and funny. The Gala Dinner in the evening was fabulous too. I look forward to catching-up with you all soon." Nicola Reynolds, Marketing Executive - Intelliflo

Thank you

The Bankhall Annual Conference 2017 truly was a fantastic day. Once again, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who could be a part of our flagship event.
